QuantWare and Q-CTRL partner to simplify the deployment of large-scale quantum computers with QuantWare QPUs, thanks to autonomous calibration

Empowering enterprise customers, this partnership will accelerate the implementation of systems capable of quantum error correction and maximize QPU performance.
DELFT, Netherlands, May 12, 2025 – QuantWare, a leading provider of quantum hardware and creator of the VIO QPU scaling technology, today announced a collaboration with Q-CTRL, a global leader in quantum infrastructure software, to deliver an autonomous calibration solution for its customers.
This partnership directly addresses a critical challenge for QuantWare’s customers: delivering useful results from today’s quantum computing hardware requires laborious, imprecise, and manual tuning of all the various “control knobs” that govern quantum processing unit (QPU) performance. By integrating Q-CTRL’s autonomous calibration solution, Boulder Opal Scale Up, with its cutting-edge QPUs, QuantWare’s customers will be able to achieve push-button tuneup of their on-premises quantum computers – an critical solution for scaling QPUs, especially those powered by QuantWare’s VIO technology, designed to unlock processors with over 1 million qubits.
This new partnership will provide QuantWare’s customers with:
– Accelerated System Development: QuantWare’s customers will be able to drastically accelerate the construction and deployment of their quantum systems towards error correction. Q-CTRL’s autonomous calibration solution streamlines the setup process, reducing test times from days to hours.
– Maximized QPU Performance: Leveraging Q-CTRL’s Boulder Opal Scale Up solution empowers any user to achieve optimal performance from QuantWare QPUs with minimal effort. This ensures that customers can unlock the full potential of QuantWare’s QPUs, including the new Contralto-A Quantum Error Correction QPU recently launched in early access.
“As we rapidly scale our devices thanks to VIO, tuning up systems built with our QPUs needs to be automated,” said Matthijs Rijlaarsdam, CEO of QuantWare. “We are excited not just to use Q-CTRL’s software internally, but especially to help our customers scale their systems faster and with confidence. Boulder Opal with Contralto-A is an extremely powerful combination that will greatly expand the capabilities of our customers.”
Q-CTRL’s Boulder Opal Scale Up solution combines PhD-level human intelligence with AI-driven automation to overcome the quantum industry bottleneck. Built on the company’s track record of delivering peak QPU performance through physics-informed AI, Boulder Opal Scale Up provides an expert-configured and fully autonomous software solution to deliver fast, repeatable, and robust QPU characterization and calibration.
“It’s our mission to make quantum technology useful for as many teams as possible,” said Michael J. Biercuk, CEO and Founder of Q-CTRL. “We’re excited to bring our expertise in physics-informed AI and performance management to the products of QuantWare and to all of their customers, so together we can have the biggest possible impact on delivering quantum advantage to the community.”
This partnership is an important step towards achieving utility-scale quantum computers. Efficiently tuning large QPUs will be critical for many customers, especially as they use processing units powered by VIO to scale their systems. With this collaboration, QuantWare streamlines the user experience with its QPUs, enabling customers to concentrate their time and resources on what matters most.
