Fibre holds 10 percent of Dutch broadband connections in Q2 2014

Houten, The Netherlands, 25 August 2014 – During the second quarter of 2014 fibre has increased its share of Dutch broadband connections to 10 percent, growing 3.4 percent during the quarter. The whole Dutch broadband market grew by 0.5 percent during the quarter to reach 6.83 million connections, according to the Dutch Broadband Q2 2014 report by Telecompaper. Cable is the largest broadband technology with 3.17 million connections, growing with 1.1 percent during the quarter. The number of DSL lines decreased 0.9 percent to 2.98 million.
Telecompaper estimates that retail revenues for the consumer broadband market grew by 1.2 percent to EUR 517 million in the second quarter of 2014 and forecasts a CAGR of 1.7 percent for the broadband revenues until 2018.

KPN, including its XS4ALL and Telfort brands, is the largest broadband provider in the Netherlands with a 39.9 percent share of subscribers at the end of June 2014, after losing 0.3 percentage point compared with the previous quarter. Ziggo was number two with a market share of 28.0 percent, and UPC came third with 16.1 percent of broadband subscribers.

“During 2014, broadband connections are expected to grow by 2.1 percent, with cable and fibre offsetting the continuing decrease in DSL,” according to Telecompaper Research Analyst Kamiel Albrecht. “Annual growth is slowing, as over 89.1 percent of households now have broadband, leaving less room for growth.”
